How did you first get into fitness?
I had tried the usual stuff first – some Zumba, an aerobics class with a friend, even a gym at school. But it always felt like a bit of a let down. Even when I was really fit, running, for example, always just felt like work. I also disliked the role of spectator and always felt self-conscious when I went to a class or watched someone doing it. I wanted to be the star of my own fitness routine.

How did you decide on your four-week fitness plan?
I’d become really interested in how eating healthy and a low-fat diet was closely linked with the lack of energy I’d been experiencing, so I began by looking up the effects of cardio on energy levels. I found that I gained a lot more energy from the cardio than I lost with the low-fat diet. It turned out that I should try to have at least an hour’s cardio every day to start with.

What do you like about it?
It has helped me significantly to get the amount of cardio I used to do without feeling too good. So it really doesn’t just boost your energy levels; it gives you an improved quality of life.

What do you dislike about it?
I guess I really dislike how the beginning of the program involves an energetic run in the morning, which can be hard for some people. But I find I still feel sluggish in the evening, which is unusual. I also think it can be overwhelming if you’re fairly new to fitness. You’re asking a lot of yourself, and when you’re starting out, it’s easy to feel overwhelmed and don’t want to go. But once you’ve been a bit more established, it’s easier to stick to the program.

What would you do differently?
I wouldn’t do the activity in the morning. I find I’m much more tired at night time and I think I’d feel better in the evening if I did it then. But as I said, I am new to fitness – it?
